These days baby showers are becoming more and more popular which means if you have a pregnant friend, then the chances you are going to be invited to a baby shower. These are a really lovely way to celebrate a new life & of course get a whole group of friends and family together. The problem is, if you do get invited one - what present you are going to take?
If you look online for baby shower present ideas then you'll come across loads of lovely presents. The problem is that other guests to the baby shower are going to be doing exactly the same. Of course the mum to be is going to happy with any present you give them, but wouldn't it be lovely to give them something that you know no one else will?
One way to make sure that this is the case is to make your own present. The good thing about this is that even if someone else makes the same present - they won't be the same! Also, by making your present you can make sure it is personalised and unique which is something that you just won't get with a shop brought gift.
Diaper cakes are a brilliant idea when it comes to making homemade gifts because they are both practical and great looking. Any mother will tell you, you can never have enough nappies especially when your baby is first born. You can create something really fantastic with a diaper cake and then the mum to be able to make practical use out of it too - which is always a great bonus!
What You'll Need
Diapers - around 64 of them works well
Rubber bands - you'll need 64 of these too
Ribbon - around 1" wide, preferably different colours
Any other decorations you want to add

To start with you'll need to roll up each of the diapers and secure with a rubber band. Once you have done this you can start to form the first layer of your cake by placing diapers upright on your cake tray. You can then hold these in place with one of your ribbon lengths.
You need to repeat this for every layer/tier of cake you want to make. Each layer should have a decreased number of diapers in it and then should be secured with ribbon before moving onto create the next layer.
When this is done you need to make sure that each layer is secure, you might want to glue some ribbon in place to do this. Don't be afraid using more ribbon if you need to. After you have done this you can then use your bows (and any other decorations you have invested in) to decorate your diaper cake and then you're done. It really is that simple to make a thoughtful, great looking baby shower gift - what are you waiting for?
